Decisions about the application

First class university – desire to undertake research

The nature of the reserach year for biochemistry

Visited open day – impressed

Preparation

no

Do not expect fairness or transparency – Oxford claims to be looking for potential – I am not convinced of their commitment to this

Interview

no

no

no

First interview – all academic questions – felt that it went really well (obviously not as I thought!!) second interview – a disgrace – the interviewer at Lady Margaret Hall did all the talking – I began to wonder what agenda they were working towards

First interview – academic questions focussing mainly on organic chemistry. second interview just listen to the interviewer talk!!!

Smart trousers, jacket, shirt

Impressions

Liked the college – beautiful surroundings

Small rooms with adequate facilities

Good

Friendly

Friendly, on the whole

Final stage

Felt devastated – felt like a failure – all other universities had accepted me – from your profiles it would seem that you can into Oxford with lower grades than other universities.

Looking back

Yes – but I would not give Oxford a second look – in hindsight i should have applied for Cambridge

Do not expect fairness or transparency – Oxford claims to be looking for potential – I am not convinced of their commitment to this.
