A in Mathematics, A in Mathematics (Further)

I was very tempted to go for Imperial which has a much better course, but decided to go for the prestige for Cambridge.

Decisions about the application

Prestige, challenge.

Cambridge was prettier, had a better reputation for my course and was easier to get to from London.

I didn’t want to do full on maths, and I enjoyed programming in Computing A level.

Good name, very nice looking architecture. However didn’t know about the state school/modern reputation until after I had applied.

yes/no should not be a checkbox, either it should be a radio button or it should be phrased as a question (yes?)
I had around 10 mock interviews with various teachers and I received a booklet of old TSA papers.

Mock interviews were the single biggest help for me, but make sure the teacher knows the style (working through maths problems and thinking aloud).

TSA, it was fairly easy but the time aspect (50 questions in 90 minutes) that was the hardest bit.

Good I felt, I had 2 30 minute interviews with 4 interviewers.

Mainly maths and logic questions. There were no actual programming questions.

Suit – made me feel comfortable and confidant. Also it was one less thing to worry about. On the other hand most other applicants seemed to be wearing normal clothes.

Very big, very pretty.

I only had time to grab a sandwich on the day, it was ok.

Fairly old, but friendly on the whole.

Normal enough.

Final stage

Terrified, I couldn’t sleep for 4 days before and had nightmares about missing my interview times when I did.

Happy, but not as excited as my mum, who went and phoned everyone she knew!

Looking back

Definitely, it was great for the experience.

Don’t worry so much!
