Decisions about the application

Because I am clever enough to.

Always aim as high as you can. Could I get any higher than an oxford degree???
(Never believe the league tables that put Oxford 4th for Computer Science bellow Imperial College London, Cambridge and Warwick)

Oxford is a good uni but it is also a cool city and parts of harry potter were filmed there

Because Inspector morse died there. No not really, I just looked around them and thats the one I liked. Its near the city centre. It was one of the easier ones to get in to.

Preparation

no

No, I just looked at a few text books before I went there and the tests were pretty easy.

Interview

no

no

yes

yes. 2.5 hour maths exam, bit tricky but once you get the idea it gets easier.

Greated by the interviewers, given a chair an pen and paper and asked to solve a few puzzles. Mainly common sense

At the end they went over a few questions from the test and that was it.

Maths ones and a few computers ones, mainly just common sense ones, no need for prior mathematical or computer experience just work it out as you go along.

The best suit that dads money could buy. Not a speck of dirt on it. Mother always said “If you look tidy then you will think tidy”.

Impressions

Exeter was very beautiful, worth taking a camera with you.

Nice rooms, pretty big. The decoations look old enough to be the original ones from when the college was built. Throw a bit of money at the big issue guy out side your window and he will soon leave you alone to get back to sleep at 6am.

Food was terrible – you could see the dog food cans that it came out of stacked up in the kitchen, but I ate out every night in a little italian restraunt.

Most of them looked pretty scary and there was one from Lincon college who was almost the male version of Anne Robinson. you say a single word out of place and he would pounce on you and make you regret you eve opened your mouth. The Exeter people were pretty friendly once you settled in.

They vary a lot. There were a few of them who were like the geeks that you see on TV (Short, wearing huge glasses and scuttling around like rats laughing at anything they saw) but there were normal people there)

Final stage

It arrived just before christmas, it was like christmas come early. Dad brought me a car to congratulate me on getting an offer.

Looking back

Yes, I would not get in if I didn’t

Dress tidy and make a good impression on the interviewers

A little bribe can go a long way (Only joking, you shouldn’t need to go that far)

Enjoy your self, you only there for a few days, make some mates there.

Don’t eat the exeter food, there is a Mcdonalds in town

Intimidate people, make them pannick, chances are that they will mess up if you intimidate them enough.
