Decisions about the application

Very good English course, wide range of topics, opportunity to do French Lit. Also what with English not being vocational, it would be good to have the Oxbridge “badge” so to speak. Also like the collegiate system – feel it would work well for me.

Live in Oxford, hence chose Cambridge!!

Extremely wide choice of topics, can do French lit which I’m doing for A level, also Tripos system meant I could change if I hated it!

Central, smallish, friendly students on open day.

Preparation

yes

Mock interview with an unknown teacher from another school. A couple of extra sessions discussing a poem or whatever, and a few additional essays.

Read lots! This was my downfall. I never realised I wasn’t really interested in it until it was too late. I had the best intentions to read lots of extra stuff, but never did because it was really just torturous for me. So make sure you really want to read books for 3 years and if you do, then read as widely as possible. Also it’s useful to remember a few quotes that might be useful.
