I’ve got my 5 other offers.. so I’m deciding between them at the moment.

Decisions about the application

I liked the place… had a nice atmosphere.. and it was the best place to study the subject. I also thought the course sounded varied and interesting. I also wanted to set myself a challenage

I visited Cambridge and thought it was a wonderful town… I didn’t visit Oxford. Didn’t want to have to make the descision! lol Also Cambridge was rated better for the course… sounded great!

No reason in particular… I had visited and liked most of the older colleges in the centre as most people do. So I applied to one.

Preparation

yes

I had a couple of general interview practices… but no subject practice

The form: Be truthful, they can spot lies! Don’t make it too flowery; be yourself, that’s who they want to see

Interview

no

yes

Yes… asked to send two essays. I sent one essay on Global warming.. and the other on NICS. I sent these as they were the current topics I was studying and are also included topics. Revelant to the time.

no

I had two interviews one general one academic. I was given the time and place where I had to go. At each interview I was invited into a room… The general.. I was in a room with large windows sat in a comfy chair with the admissions tutor behind a desk! Academic was slightly more informal… in a small attic type room… I was sat on a sofa and the tutor on a rocking chair! How bizarre.

In my general interview… I was asked all the normal things.. like why did you choose this college… what do you see yourself doing after your degree….what activities would you participate in should you get a place.. etc… In my academic interview… we started talking generally about the subject.. then I was asked: When the last ice age was. The two main topic of conversation weere: the issues I would address if I was damming a river in Africa, the consequences it would have. What causes global warming… does being part of the EU help our flood management. At what dissertation work could you carry out in a glaciated valley.. to do with arts and science side. The methods I would use to collect data etc.

I wore suit trousers a polo neck jumper and a grey woollen jacket….. smart/casual and comfy. It’s what I wear for school… so felt at home in it!

Impressions

It was a historical pretty college… The tutors seemed friendly… although i know that Christs tends to be quite an academic college.

Didn’t see it… although saw the outside of the first year accomodation in what is known as the TYPEWRITER it’s ugly but hey!

Friendly enough

Final stage

I got the letter around New Year… and I’d been telling myself I wouldnt get in even though the interview had gone really well… I didn’t get an offer. Obviously I was dissappointed, anyone who says otherwise would be lying! But the letter also said I’d been pooled…so it meant another lot of waiting before finding out if I would finally get a place or not.. I didn’t… but hey their, loss someone else’s gain!!

Looking back

I would definately apply… it was a great experience… and would encourage anyone thinking about applying to apply… even if they think it’s a complete shot in the dark. I don’t regret it at all…. and at least you wont spend you life wondering. What if I had applied!!

I dont know really… just go for it you’ve got nothing to lose (suppose that’s debatable).. In the end the people interviewing know what they’re doing … if you’re right for the university they will know. GOOD LUCK!!
