Decisions about the application

Always aim for the top

Geography is better at Cambridge and the colleges are of a better size. it has more of a community feel that Oxford which felt like a city with colleges where as at Cambridge the city is the university

Right in the centre, beautiful buildings, a paddock with tennis courts in the summer, ducks (and millions of ducklings in spring) a huge purple flowering tree, very friendly people and the best bar in the whole of Cambridge

No extra tuition just a practice interview with a teacher

The form: Everyone here is the best at everything – what makes you stand out? Emphasise your unique strengths and be enthusiastic about your subject.

The interview: Just relax and be prepared to have a debate – it doesn’t matter what you argue as long as you can justify your argument.

Two essays one on separatist movements and one on soil evolution, management and degradation. I wanted to show breadth of interest in my subject.

Discussed my essays and had a discussion on some prereleased material

What would you tell someone and where would you take them to explain why geography is interesting and relevant?

A colourful shirt and black trousers. Smart but comfortable – colour to make me stand out and to show my personality.

Emma is very friendly, the right size and very mixed in terms of the background of students. It has pretty much a 50:50 male:female ratio.

Better than any of your friends at other unis will have – we all get our own fridge and washing done for us.

Edible but not great

depends what you like…..veggy is always pasta and cheese

Final stage

Looking back

Yes – it was the best decision I’ve made

Give it a go – what have you got to lose? Everone fits in at Cambridge because its so diverse. There isn’t a Cambridge type and you never see the geniuses!
