Decisions about the application

Curiosity

Nearer to home

No entrance exam

Preparation

no

Be honest, they ask you about that stuff

Interview

no

no

no

One general, friendly interview

One moderately hard on a case given to me on arrival

One hard interview on ucas form, why i applied and why i should be given a place. also questioned about views/beleifs etc

Do you agree with the way judges are selected?

Casual ie jeans looked silly in any thing else (as did many a person in a suit)

Impressions

Friendly, like a community within a community

Room was huge (but i know now that they vary)
facilities not bad, most have washbasin in room
can be a little cold

Edible but not great

The stuff they give you at interview is the good stuff, but we’re working on it (pretending to be veggie can sometimes pay off, but it’s risky)

Good cop, bad cop thing going on at interview, but not so bad. both wanted candidated to do well

Varies, like most places there are people you like and people you don’t, but it’s pretty easy to distinguish them

Final stage

I had a phone call from the tutor, so had to stay calm. may well have freaked out after though. certainly freaked out when place was confirmed

Looking back

Not sure, as oxbridge application meant i was refused by my first choice uni. don’t regret coming here though

Read about anything relevant in the newspapers

If you don’t get in you can always re-apply, but it is good to have a back up plan as well. at interview DON’T WEAR A SUIT, you just look out of place
