Decisions about the application

A good reputation and facilities

Oxford seemed like a nicer and friendlier place to live in

Friendly, low ratio of applicants:places

Preparation

yes

Mock interviews, interview forum – but all pretty useless!

Don’t make any mistakes, concentrate on why you want to apply to Oxbridge in particular, and don’t lie!

Interview

no

no

yes

A multiple choice and essay – no preparation for them, although wasn’t really needed’ like General Studies

Interview was based completely on a passage of text and no knowledge of law was required so any prep you did was useless!

Based on passage. They constantly changed the circumstances of a particular situation and kept asking questions against what you said

Smart quite formal

Impressions

Somerville looked friendly from the prospectus and when I arrived the people were nice

Room was big, old and cold

Excellent

It was really really nice, and you get loads!

Really nice and at an introductory session calmed everyone down

Friendly (1st-3rd years)

Final stage

I was half asleep, but when opened letter was very happy

Looking back

Yes, worth a try and made some good friends too

Don’t waste time looking at case studies – it really wasn’t veru useful.

Try your best and be yourself.
