Decisions about the application

Academic reputation, beautiful surroundings.

I visited both, but Cambridge appealed to me more since it wasn’t as busy as Oxford, and the area just ‘felt’ nicer. Also, Cambridge has a slightly stronger tradition in the sciences.

I’ve always wanted to do medicine from an early age and have always been interested in science. This course seems ideal for giving you a strong foundation of scientific knowledge to use later on during clinical training.

Big, grand, incredible scientific history and world-wide reputation, quite centrally located, not too far from the medical site, May Ball looks awesome, excellent opportunity to get involved.

Preparation

yes

Mock interview – although it turned out to be much different to my actual interview.

Take time over your application, do not leave it to the last minute.

Interview

yes

BMAT – another hurdle to jump, just don’t worry too much if you feel it went disastrously. It’s only one part of the application.

no

no

Comfortable, interviewers put you completely at ease.

Time passes very quickly!

Mainly biology based questions, although you should at least acknowledge you could be asked on any of your AS subjects.

Suit and tie, looks professional and is comfortable for me, and most people wore the same anyway so I didn’t look out of place.

Impressions

Trinity was huge and it looked very grand. Almost overwhelming but very beautiful all the same.
Did visit Girton, which was very nice too, but too far out of town for my liking.

I stayed over the night before interview – room was relatively small but very comfortable and had all that was needed including a fridge, washbasin, nice big desk etc.

Very nice, nice to know I don’t need to cook if I don’t want to.

Very friendly, down to earth.

Again, very friendly people.

Final stage

I was nervous, but didn’t really think too much about it, which was weird because many of my other friends were really fretting about it.

It’s an indescribable feeling. I was so over the moon, I just couldn’t believe it!

Looking back

Yes absolutely!

For goodness sake if you’re thinking of Oxbridge, have a go. Never let anyone put you off, because you will regret it big time if you don’t at least try.
Good luck
