Decisions about the application

i liked the idea of the college system

I preferred the course at cambridge and id heard it had a better reputation

i liked the atmosphere and when i went on the open day they were really friendly and helpful

Preparation

no

a mock interview with my biology which turned out to be nothing like my real interview at all

dont expect to be asked about ethics or issues like stem cells and cloning. it was all about science and to an onlooker would have seemed like interviews for biology not medicine. it was like a really hard science test but orally. even the general interview seemed very subject specific. revise all your biology that you’ve done so far

Interview

yes

had to do the bmat – do as much practice as you can because it really helps

no

no

i had three and we had to wait in between interviews in a little room with 2 current student – bizarrely it was quite enjoyable waiting because everyone was very friendly

1st interview – something about cell differentiation but i didnt understand the way he put the questions. i think he wanted me to talk about genes being switshed on and off. then describe a study to see if frequent flyers have more breast cancer. then a picture to identify. then anothe picture, then talk about monoclonal anitbodies. then extra curricular activities. (plus other stuf ive forgotten). i felt at the time this interview was a disaster. 2nd interview – talk about nerves, talk about vaccines, talk about sodium potassium channels, talk about the liver. general interview – how can we prove blood flows round the body and back to the heart, how disprove mmr claims, why medicine?, what to do if one person is found with smallpox?.

suit because thats what i wear for school and i feel comfortable in it

Impressions

seemed very small and friendly

the rooms seemed nice – average size
all other faclities were nice

NA

very friendly and keen

the two that sat with us while we waited were lovely and very helpful

Final stage

i was still half asleep and just managed to read the first sentance before i started jumping around

Looking back

yes, im really looking forward to going

go for it, its worth a try.
