Offer from UCL for Medicine

 grades pending/unknown

Decisions about the application

liked the medical course

went to cambridge and i liked the place, went to oxford and didnt like it-easy choice

it looked pretty

yep but i didnt go to the “oxbridge lessons” because they are pointless, you can not possibly predict what they will ask you

read up a lot about medical related stuff. Read new scientist and stuff like that. If you have a genuine interst, they will see it.

MVAT which all medics have to take-forgot to prepare for it but i should have just read through my GCSE notes

had 2 interviews, both were formal but the interviewers were really friendly and encouraging

really odd questions, i had to devise experiments and everytime i answered the interviewer would say “good, but pretend i dont believe you, give me another answer!” I was asked “why dont proteins fall out of membranes” questions on BSE and prions and loads of other random questions that i really didnt know the answers to- i just made up some logiacal stuff and they seemed to like it

trousers and nice top, not a suit they want to talk to you and work out what you are like, they are not there to judge your fashion sense

my college was lovely, the people were friendly and i was given a really nice room to stay in

fairly big, not ensuite, nice 🙂

surprisingly nice! I was worried about them being intimidating and patronising but they were lovely and really helpful in the interview.

Final stage

i was really nervous because the letter looked really thin so i thought it was a rejection! My boyfriend alreay had an organ scholarship to Cambridge so i rang him and told him that i got in-so we were both rather pleased!

Looking back

yes. I like the uni and loads of my friends were applying so it is always worth a shot if you want to go there

sounds really cliched but be yourself. If you deserve a place you’ll get one- don’t ever be put off by the weird tales and dont think you wont get in. Have realistic expectations though and be prepared for something that you’ll never get anywhere else
