Decisions about the application

Tutorial system, great place to spend 6 years, extra BA degree, nice people, brilliant name

loved oxford architecturally, and Cambridge wouldn’t let me in since you have to2 be 18 to start a Medicine course!! Oxford doesn’t care what age!!

Nice location-a little outside the city. Easy to get to (close to train and bus stations). Very pretty. Friendly people. Own lake!

Preparation

yes

A mock interview

OAF: Fill in the additional information box stating your love for Oxford, it’s important!

Interview: Take it easy, read medical articles in news. Specify a particular area of medicine that you’re interested in (for me it was the heart) and learn a bit about it (basic physiology). Just normal preparation, but don’t go overboard!!

Came in, shook hands, appeared calm (well tried to). Just don’t rush in to questions, think logically. Tutors are very nice. And be prompt, very important. Not trying to trick you or anything, just be yourself!

What aspects of medicine appeal to you the most? Find molarity of water. Talked about PET scanning. Talked about head of Glaxo Wellcome saying his drugs are pants…about drug developments and patents. Talked about pacemaker cells in heart (something that interests me), and had to read an article beforehand about genetic stuff (read it well guys-very important). Oh..and “you have a foetal head in a large conical flask” find circumference of head! hint….use mirror and pen and ruler. nod and smile a lot too!!

Suit-for medicine it’s essential. It’s a tough course and you have to look smart.

Impressions

stunning. also had interviews at Christ Church-v.v.imposing, scared me!!

Good sized rooms. food was mediocre though (but probably only because i was nervous)!

Edible but not great

Friendly. Very NICE! Shake hands with them firmly guys!!Very important. Really clever and talented people!

Brill. Organised a mini-party and went out of their way to help you relax and prepare!

Final stage

Found that it was thick and started jumping alot!

Looking back

Yeah-its gonna be a unique experience!

Take it easy. Dont have your heart set on it, because interviewers dont like that. Just be passionate about your course and love the experience. 2 days in Oxford was amazing!
