Decisions about the application
Best for my course
The course at Oxford appealed to me more
It had a high literature content, which was something that really caught my attention.
I was really impressed by the grounds and facilities on the Open Day.
I had a practice interview and my languages teachers had some extra lessons with me to discuss some literature.
Do what you can, but don’t panic about trying to prepare for everything – it’s simply not possible. Just revise what you should know, and be yourself when it comes to interview.
A half hour exam for each language I was applying for.
They were tough, but quite enjoyable.
It was more like a conversation with people who were passionate for the same things I am, but who knew a lot more than me!
I was given passages to look at in the language, and asked questions on that about the style and general meaning, then there was a section in the language, and some questions in English at the end about how I went about reading a text for the first time in a foreign language.
A suit, because I felt more comfortable dressed smartly.
Very beautiful, all of them looked stunning.
They were comfortable, and pleasant to stay in.
Very good! I looked forward to the meals.
Approachable, friendly and interested.
Also helpful, always willing to offer advice.
I was nervous, I just wanted to know one way or the other.
It was just a very good day – the letter came and I let all of my family know.
Go for it, apply, and give it all you’ve got, but be aware that even the best applicants don’t get in, so you mustn’t feel disappointed if you don’t receive an offer; you’ll still go to a great university.
