Decisions about the application

Oxbridge as an entity is so prestigious and you get the best education there!

Oxford is a better university

Modern, forward-looking and very laid-back

Preparation

yes

One mock interview in November

Anyone applying should be clever enough to work out the OAF/CAF.
[The interviewers] were impressed by the number of French novels I’d read and what I knew about France

Interview

no

yes

One essay (in French) and one translation (English to French) to show different skills

yes

One grammar test – no real prep. needed

I got a piece of prose to analyse and talk about, then we spoke in French and then we talked about the pieces I submitted

I can’t remember but they were very challenging!

Normal stuff – jeans and a top

Impressions

I love this college

Very modern and warm and average size.

Excellent

Very friendly

Very normal and down to earth. No, really!

Final stage

I was ******* pleased! I’d worked very hard and I’d achieved something brilliant because of it.

Looking back

Yes.

Don’t get too nervous, we have tutorials with the same guys now and it’s absolutely fine. They just want a chat with you about what you know. They don’t just sit there and grill you, though the questions asked really make you have to think.
