Decisions about the application

It’s fame for sure.

I like Cambridge’s environment more.

I like physics so I applied Nat. Sciences physical.

Queens’ is located in the town centre but not too small in size.

Preparation

no

I did quite a lot of further readings. I also gone through mock interviews in school.

Do LOTS of further readings. I found this helps a lot in my interviews. Also know your A-level syllabus well.

TSA – not doing too good

1st interview Physics (30 mins):
I managed to answer all the questions correctly.
I was really quite pleased with this and I think this is the main reason that I could get an offer. =]

2nd interview Chemistry (25 mins):
The final part was quite challenging, but I did get the right answer at the end though.

Physics: Mechanics, Circuits, Quantum and particle physics
Chemistry: Spectrometry, Isomerism
Maths: Differentiation, Curve Sketching

Physics:

1. Projectile motion

My comment: 1st question, a bit nervous, but finally got the answer without any tips or help.

Interviewer’s comment: Good. Well done (something like that). OK we’ll try another mechanics question.

2. Pulley with masses on it

My comment: not too bad, manage to drew the right conclusion at the end.

Interviewer’s comment: Good.

3. Topic discussion: Applications of quantum theory, then went on to STM and quantum tunnelling effect

My comment: Quite good. I’ve prepared a lot about this and presented well.

4. Equivalent resistance of a circuit

My comment: slightly confused at the beginning, manage to get the right answer.

Interviewer’s comment: You’re right.

5. Topic discussion: Particle accelerators and detectors

My comment: not bad, just had to recognize why such high speed had to be used for accelerating particles

6. Differentiation

My comment: Very easy. =]]

Interviewer’s comment: Good you’re right.

7. Curve sketching

My comment: Not difficult, got it right =] Just had to explain why when x=0, y=1

Chemistry:

1. Talk about a topic that you’re interested in Chemistry.

My comment: talked about mass spectroscopy. not too bad.

2. Talk about isomerism in general.

My comment: ok but got geometrical and stereo mixed up.

3. Talk about optical isomerism.

My comment: not bad, manage to drew the structures right

4. Given the structure of a molecule, deduce whether it is optically active or not

My comment: Haven’t seen this before, needed some help to identify the shape of the molecule but finally got it

Suit. That makes me look smart.

Impressions

Queens’ is a beautiful college. I love it.

Rooms are quite large compare to most colleges located in the town cwntre.

Quite good.

My director of studies was very nice. Looking forward to meet him.

All are very nice.

Final stage

Nothing special. I did quite well in my interviews so I think at least I would be pooled. ^_^

Very happy indeed~
Reliefed.

Looking back

SURE!!!

Go for it, you won’t regret.
It’s a once in a life experience.
