Decisions about the application

Reputation for good teaching, I knew if I got an offer, it would give me my best chance to do well in my degree

Fell in love with the city of Cambridge, didnt like Oxford too much from visits.

wanted to progress from Natural Sciences (Physical) to Chemical Engineering

Small, I found it to be very friendly, in the Heart of Cambridge

Preparation

yes

Yes, several practice interviews just to prepare me for the unexpected

The Forms: Never say you want to do a subject by using a negative, only choose a subject for positive reasoning << advice given by my teacher infact

The interview(s): Do your reading, extend your knowledge beyond A-level, be prepared to think outside your subject

Interview

no

2 Interviews
1 general interview, with some suprise subject questions at the end
1 Subject interview, led by physics and chemistry master of studies

Why Sidney? Why Natural Sciences for Chemical Engineering? What has particularly interested you in your studies? Following from that question, questions on SHM and resonance, not too bad 🙂 Subject Interview: Density of Water graph at different states Hydrogen bonding in water Bond Angles in Water and Carbon Non-Newtonian Solids Isotopes Carbon Dating

A suit, I feel more confident when dressed in a suit, but dress how you feel confident

Impressions

Sidney: very very friendly, “cosy,” a place of calm in cambridges main street!

Quite large rooms compared to other universities

NA

I was told by a student at the college its not that great, but I have no first hand experience

Very friendly, young, not posh… definately not how you expect them to be!

erm friendly, normal students to be honest, they didnt look any different from any other students at other univercities

Final stage

My mum woke me up with a letter from Cambridge, there it was sitting there, I said it didnt look very thick, and so it was probably a rejection letter, and I was proved right, after burying my head in my pillow for a few minutes, I didnt feel at my best, its hard when you’ve prepared and tried hard for it! but dont let this discourage you… if u havent tried you’ll never know!

Looking back

YES! you have nothing to lose, if you dont apply, yes you’ve saved yourself a bit of work, but you will never know if you would have got in, you will never have the opportunity to have an interview with some of the leading people in the world for subject!

Just go for it, make sure you explain yourself well in interview, explain your thought processes, and hopefully, ull be a bit luckier than me!
