Decisions about the application

Always been the plan

NatSci Tripos appealing, Cambridge == Science

Loved the open day, very well known

A little discussion etc.

The interview(s): NatSci, if another college, know your subject, but at Trin, just maths and BASIC subjects. Ask absolutly nothing about PS, extra curric, intrests.

As above, learnt more maths, as it was maths (for nat sci!)

First a one hour maths test, aimed clearly at a level well above anything I have/would be studying. Quarter of an hour later, a 45min interview, confidence very low now. On the paper before hand.

What is the ratio of energy expenditure of a cyclist with a 5ms head/tail wind and 90deg. Entropy changes (never done), centrifugal force(never done), Integration, etc.. Interview was based on a few of these questions. They were friendly, but phrased the questions differently, so there was a little ambiguity.

Suit etc. Formal, important

Jeses – Should of applied (much better chance for me), and very nice

Very large suprizingly.

Edible but not great

Okay, firendly but intimidating

Generally nice, a few people who got in for other reasons…

Final stage

Kind of expected it, and Durham is way better for Physics, so it’s a mixed blessing. And I get a life. Cambridge is very insular, everything in college, no living out. Not much growing up…

Looking back

Yes, probably, but to a different, for informal college, prob Jesus

Know you topic, grades mean nothing, as much as the tell you otherwise, the interview is what matters. One guy 7A a-lev, rejected.
