Decisions about the application

Course, Reputation, plus it’s the best uni in the country <g>

I prefer the course at Camb, and it has a better reputation forscience IMO

They had a science open day when I went down to camb, so I went there. I liked the look and atmosphere of it, and also good reputation

Not really. The odd bit of advice like If I think I’ve totally screwed up the interview it’s not necessarily true.

The Forms: Check you have enough room to fill what you want in the boxes.

The Interview(s): Read all around your subject.

Went down on the day for 9am – bastards, way too early considering it takes 4hr from my house to camb. Had a short 10 min talk before, then shown where all the interviews are go to individual interviews.

1st interview. Why camb? Why Tit hall? Why nat sci, not chem? Then 3 integral to compare: int(ln x), int( ln xË›), int ( (ln x)Ë›) 2nd interview: stuff about NMR and various organic reactions – he found a picture of a big molecule and asked me about different aspects of it. 3rd interview: About extra-curricular activities – big silence, then waffle. Then stuff about properties of materials.

Small, friendly. I really liked what I could sense of the atmosphere there.
Had a look at Trinity – Huge. Way too big for my liking.
Ditto Corpus Christi – quite nice, but not as nice as Tit hall.

Rooms seemed not big but not tiny either. Not too bad overall.

Although limited choice.

Friendly, not too formal. In my interviews they really tried to make me feel not nervous, with only slight success, but that was my fault.

Only spoke to two, but they were nice.

Final stage

Phone my friends as soon as I’d read it. Actually, screaming ‘I GOT AN OFFER FROM CAMBRIDGE!!!!!!!!!!’ came first.

Looking back

Definitely. I love the city, the uni, everything about it.

Try not to worry too much about the interview, it won’t be /that/ bad.
