I rejected all my other offers (BBB from Imperial, Nottingham, Bath, Leeds, Edinbrugh) with the intention of reapplying to Cambridge in the Autumn

Decisions about the application

Reputation and collegiate system.

My mother went to Cambridge and it seemed the natural choice

Corpus Christi – Small and in the centre of town

Preparation

yes

Yes, A mock interview in both chemistry and physics

The Forms: Get a good photo to send in with it and take a copy to read through before the interview.

The interview(s): Read through your textbooks and your application form.

Interview

no

no

no

No, but I did spend the morning before interview going through my physics textbook in Heffers.

Two interviews. Both with physicists. Both technical. No personal questions asked at all.

A tricky question on gravitation and explaining tides in the first interview. In the second interview: Estimate the number of air molecules in this room? How can you stop this postcard tumbling in the air by placing paperclips on it?

A suit. It put me in the right frame of mind.

Impressions

Perfect location. Very nice.

I stayed in a large set on the top floor of old court. Large living space with tiny bedroom off. Nice and warm. However I discovered thet I had to go down several flights of wooden stairs and across the court in the rain to reach toilets, showers etc. Not so good.

Excellent

Fantastic breakfast.

Nice if obviouly geting tired of seeing so many applicants.

Again nice . Had a good chat with some over dinner and breakfast. They are human.

Final stage

Gutted. It did affect the quality of my work once I returned to school. I had lost my motivation. It took a while to bounce back.

Looking back

Yes. It was my first choice then and still is.

Don’t worry about it too much. Your fate is firmly in their hands.
