Decisions about the application

To become rich and make money.

The buildings look nicer there.

It’s fun and people who do it usually earn a lot of money.

The buildings looked better then any other college.

Preparation

yes

I had a lot of help. Don’t tell anyone but I hardly wrote my own UCAS statement, my teachers helped me quite a bit. I also got interview tuition from my teachrs at £ 39 an hour.

You can only do your best.

Interview

My exam was quite easy. It was the TSA

yes

Yes, I sent an essay which they really liked which I think made all the difference.

yes

There was a surprise test which I did not know about but it was not too bad.

They went really well, I felt good about them when I finished.

They asked me questions on my favourite subjects. Then we looked at an economic article and analysed it. Some of the issues had political and philosophical implications and we discussed these in detail. I felt clever leaving the interview.

Why do you want to come to our college. What’s your favourite subject and why? Are you good at writing essays? Why do you think you are and what makes a good essaysist.

I wore my jeans to one interview and my tracksuits to the other.

Impressions

It thought the college was really good. St John’s was also brilliant.

They are actually quite small yet the facilities such as computers are top class.

They gave us free food all day.

Really nice and welcoming though a bit too academic for my liking!

Some of them were really posh which did in a way put me off. But others were just like me and overall, everyone was quite good natured.

Final stage

It was agony. I could not believe it when I got it!

I got a telephone call with someone leaving a message. They also sent a letter which arrived the following morning.

Looking back

I don’t know. I know that it’s a good learning experience but it leaves you almost dead with all the work and what is even worse is that after it all, you may not get in ! So I don’t think I would apply again.

Get good grades. My gcses and a levels weren’t particularly brilliant but they show an improvement. Equally, do some better As levels than I did. Only one of my subjects was really academic but fortunately my essay compensated.
