Decisions about the application

I felt I was capable and so wanted to have a go at getting in. I was apprehensive coming from a comprehensive school in the North of England but once I visited Oxford I felt all the stereotypes you hear about arent true at all

I wanted to do PPE which wasnt offered at Cambridge

Friendly atmosphere, not too big, good accommodation,

Preparation

yes

Yes. A company called Application research came and gave us a one day training session on interview techniques including a mock interview

2 pieces of work. I sent in my exam scripts from modules 2 and 3 of economics AS level.

yes

1 exam. We couldnt prepare for it as it was to test the way you think

I was given an article in the morning which I had to read through. I had about 3 hours to go through it and make notes on the sheet. There were four questions on the sheet to consider and these were all that were asked in the interview. I found this a bit unfair as there were no personal questions, but I got a second interview at Oriel College, and here there were personal questions as well as academic ones and i felt i did better in this interview

Questions relating to article at Jesus. A variety of academic questions at Oriel. There was 20mins to prepare before and I struggled with a lot of the questions in this time but once in the interview the tutors worked through them and I got the answers in the end

Blouse and trousers. Just a casual blouse as i felt comfortable in it.

Impressions

I loved it. Excellent friendly atmosphere, beautiful buildings and huge bedroom!

Large room, i had ensuite which was good but a lot of rooms are shared bathrooms. Good quality modern furniture and lots of storage space

Good

Not too bad, a bit scary in the interview but i think that was just cos i was generally nervous. They were friendly though

Final stage

I screamed! Then i went and rang everyone to tell them. I was so shocked as i thought my interview went terribly

Looking back

Not a lot of preparation academically is possible as you dont know what article theyll give you. However, stay calm, as once nerves set in logical thought disappears
