Decisions about the application

Cambridge didn’t do the course I wanted

Sounded nice in the prospectus. Promised accomodation for four years.

Preparation

no

Can’t really remeber doing the forms.

Be yourself at interview.
Mention a few areas of physics you like (and read up on them) on your UCAS form as this gives a good starting point for the interview.

Yes a maths test. It was of A level standard and was about 1 hour long. I found it a bit tricky as I had only studied single maths at A level.

I had two interviews with different tutors of the college. The first one asked me about the areas of physics I’d mentioned on my UCAS form and they gave me problems to do on the blackboard. The second interview was a mixture of maths questions and I had to pick an item from a box and talk about it (I chose a transformer).

Physics ones. They didn’t ask anything personal, but they started off the interview by talking about the areas of physics that interested me (I had written them down in my personal statement).

A black suit. I thought smart was best.

Impressions

Very nice and very friendly.

Generally very good for the first year, most college rooms are en suite. However not all first years are housed in the college, half are housed across the road in Lincoln House/Staircase 15.

Excellent

Best food in Oxford!

Really nice. Whilst waiting to go into my second interview, the tutors who had interviewed me that morning passed by the room and spoke to me whilst I waited! They were really nice and friendly.

Lovely. They kept us well fed with chocolate and tea. They were always on hand to talk to and kept us enterained with films on an evening.

Final stage

I received the letter on Christmas Eve and was absolutely amazed and delighted!

Looking back

Definately. It hasn’t been easy at times, but I have enjoyed it and don’t regret coming here at all. I don’t want to leave!

Go for it!
