Decisions about the application

Mainly for the tradition and pure snobbery, and the course seemed ideal

Only Ox offered phy/phil

Good balance between arts and science, I had (still have) trouble committing myself to one or the other.

Originally applied to Balliol – it looked nice! Reallocated to St. Hilda’s.

Preparation

yes

A few maths sessions that were mainly aimed at those applying for maths so they involved using proofs rather than testing methods.

Do a full further maths A level. You will fnd the admissions test significantly easier!

Interview

yes

These were harder than the practice paper suggested. Try and get hold of questions outside the A level syllabus.

5 in total. 3 (2 philosophy, 1 physics) went well. The other two (maths and physics) I bombed.

Physics: Kepler’s law, electric fields, SHM
Maths: differential equations

Impressions

Nice, but not as nice as the older ones – a distinct lack of Hogwarts-esque hall!

Average.

Overall nice

Looking back

Yes, but I would have actually worked for it.
